Growth of Viral Video Leaves Deaf Community In The Dark

WASHINGTON - Viral videos may be good for sharing ideas and spreading funny foreign pop hits, but they are leaving millions of Deaf and Hearing Impaired people out of the loop.



Online video is becoming a more ubiquitous part of American life. Netflix videos made up one-third of online data used in the United States last year. YouTube expects 90 percent of online traffic to be video in the next few years. By 2016, Cisco estimates, 1.2 million minutes of video will be streamed or downloaded every second.



That video explosion has been great for small-film and TV producers, who are able to reach an audience without a big studio budget, and fans of niche programming. But in some ways, it has left the deaf and hard-of-hearing community starting from scratch after years of advocating for captions on traditional television.



“We could be back to square one,” said Christian Vogler, director of the Technology Access Program at Gallaudet University.



The rise of e-mails, instant messages and social media was a godsend to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, which embraced the new, text-based ways to communicate.



“In the mid- to late 1990s, it was close to the ideal medium,” Vogler said. But as the Web evolved to include more video, he said, old barriers to communication resurfaced. ... Montreal Institute For The Deaf Ex-Students Allege Horrific Abuses

VIDEO [CC] - Montreal School for the Deaf's ex-students allege horrific abuses. Warning: This story with the video contains potentially disturbing content.

MONTREAL - Former students at a church-run institute for the Deaf in Montreal have come forward with graphic tales of sexual abuse they allege they suffered during more than four decades.



Quebec's Superior Court authorized a class-action lawsuit last March against members of the Clerics of St-Viateur who worked at the school, formerly known as the Montreal Institute for the Deaf.



The former boarding school was run by the Clerics of Saint-Viateur, a religious congregation founded in 1831.

According to students who attended the all-boys institute between 1940 and 1982, violent sexual assaults were commonplace. Denis Chalifoux, who alleges he was eight years old when the abuse began in 1968, is one of 64 claimants taking part in the class action against 28 religious staff and six lay workers.



Only four or five of the alleged abusers would still be alive today.

Most of the alleged victims' identities are protected in court documents, but Chalifoux came forward to tell his story to CBC's French-language service with the help of a sign language interpreter. He described horrific acts allegedly at the hands of a staff member. "He showed me his penis. It was in front of me, in my face. I didn't want to look," Chalifoux told Radio-Canada. MONTREAL -- Lawsuit alleges dozens of clergy abused children at Montreal school for Deaf. Another chapter of Quebec’s dark history of the sexual abuse of children in church-run institutions was aired this week by Radio-Canada. But this was not just any chapter. It threatens to be one of the most horrifying in an already heartbreaking record.



It deals with the sexual abuse of young boys, already vulnerable because of their age but doubly or triply so because they were also Deaf and mute. Their alleged abusers were educated men who promised to set the boys free from their silent world.



Clerical and lay members of a much-admired Roman Catholic teaching order, the Clercs de Saint-Viateur, these men did not set the boys free. The boys who say they were abused ended up in a living hell, terrified of telling anyone what was happening to them. They remained trapped in that hell in adulthood, unable to erase the grotesque images in their heads of masturbating priests and anal rape.



This case may turn out to be the worst ever seen involving the abuse of Deaf children. Unlike the previous record, held by a single Roman Catholic priest, Lawrence Murphy of Wisconsin, in Quebec more than 30 clergy are alleged to have abused the Deaf children in their care, sometimes one after another. (Murphy, who may have sexually assaulted as many as 200 children at a school for the Deaf in Wisconsin, was denounced in 1996 to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI.



Radio-Canada’s investigative program Enquête called its program The Perfect Victims. The boys came as boarders to the only school for the deaf in the province at the age of 7 or 8. Deaf Canadian Dart Players Compete For National Title

ST. JOHN'S - Top dart throwers from all over Canada are in St. John's this weekend for a unique championship.



Competitors are vying for one of the top sporting titles for the nation's Deaf community, the Canadian Deaf Darts Championship.



The salons in the Capitol Hotel are strikingly quiet, yet full of non-stop action and people chatting.



"Darts is a fantastic sport. It's probably the top Deaf sport," said the event's chair, Bryan Johnson, speaking through sign language interpreter, Debbie Newport.

"It's sometimes difficult when you're playing with a mixed league of both Deaf and hearing," he added. "At least this way, there is no barrier, we can just chat freely."

“Wanita itu adalah aurat (harus ditutupi), bila ia ia keluar dari rumahnya, maka setan akan mengesankannya begitu cantik (di mata lelaki yang bukan mahramnya).” (Riwayat At Tirmizy dan lainnya).

Dahulu, tatkala hubungan antara anda dengannya terlarang dalam agama, maka setan berusaha sekuat tenaga untuk mengaburk

an pandangan dan akal sehat anda, sehingga anda hanyut oleh badai asmara. Karena anda hanyut dalam badai asmara haram, maka mata anda menjadi buta dan telinga anda menjadi tuli, sehingga andapun bersemboyan:Cinta itu buta.

Akan tetapi setelah hubungan antara anda berdua telah halal, maka spontan setan menyibak tabirnya, dan berbalik arah. Setan tidak lagi membentangkan tabir di mata anda, setan malah berusaha membendung badai asmara yang telah menggelora dalam jiwa anda. Saat itulah, anda mulai menemukan jati diri pasangan anda seperti apa adanya. Saat itu anda mulai menyadari bahwa hubungan dengan pasangan anda tidak hanya sebatas urusan paras wajah, kedudukan sosial, harta benda. Anda mulai menyadari bahwa hubungan suami-istri ternyata lebih luas dari sekedar paras wajah atau kedudukan dan harta kekayaan. Terlebih lagi, setan telah berbalik arah, dan berusaha sekuat tenaga untuk memisahkan antara anda berdua dengan perceraian:

“Maka mereka mempelajari dari Harut dan Marut (nama dua setan) itu apa yang dengannya mereka dapat menceraikan (memisahkan) antara seorang (suami) dari istrinya.” (Qs. Al Baqarah: 102)

Mungkin anda bertanya, lalu bagaimana saya harus bersikap?
Bersikaplah sewajarnya dan senantiasa gunakan nalar sehat dan hati nurani anda. Dengan demikian, tabir asmara tidak menjadikan pandangan anda kabur dan anda tidak mudah hanyut oleh bualan dusta dan janji-janji palsu.

Mungkin anda kembali bertanya: Bila demikian adanya, siapakah yang sebenarnya layak untuk mendapatkan cinta suci saya? Kepada siapakah saya harus menambatkan tali cinta saya?

Simaklah jawabannya dari Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam:
“Biasanya, seorang wanita itu dinikahi karena empat alasan: karena harta kekayaannya, kedudukannya, kecantikannya dan karena agamanya. Hendaknya engkau menikahi wanita yang taat beragama, niscaya engkau akan bahagia dan beruntung.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaih)

Dan pada hadits lain beliau bersabda:
“Bila ada seorang yang agama dan akhlaqnya telah engkau sukai, datang kepadamu melamar, maka terimalah lamarannya. Bila tidak, niscaya akan terjadi kekacauan dan kerusakan besar di muka bumi.” (Riwayat At Tirmizy dan lainnya)

Cinta yang tumbuh karena iman, amal sholeh, dan akhlaq yang mulia, akan senantiasa bersemi. Tidak akan lekang karena sinar matahari, dan tidak pula luntur karena hujan, dan tidak akan putus walaupun ajal telah menjemput.

“Orang-orang yang (semasa di dunia) saling mencintai pada hari itu sebagiannya menjadi musuh bagi sebagian yang lain kecuali orang-orang yang bertaqwa.” (Qs. Az Zukhruf: 67)

Saudaraku! Cintailah kekasihmu karena iman, amal sholeh serta akhlaqnya, agar cintamu abadi. Tidakkah anda mendambakan cinta yang senantiasa menghiasi dirimu walaupun anda telah masuk ke dalam alam kubur dan kelak dibangkitkan di hari kiamat? Tidakkah anda mengharapkan agar kekasihmu senantiasa setia dan mencintaimu walaupun engkau telah tua renta dan bahkan telah menghuni liang lahat?
Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda:

“Tiga hal, bila ketiganya ada pada diri seseorang, niscaya ia merasakan betapa manisnya iman: Bila Allah dan Rasul-Nya lebih ia cintai dibanding selain dari keduanya, ia mencintai seseorang, tidaklah ia mencintainya kecuali karena Allah, dan ia benci untuk kembali kepada kekufuran setelah Allah menyelamatkan dirinya, bagaikan kebenciannya bila hendak diceburkan ke dalam kobaran api.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaih)

Saudaraku! hanya cinta yang bersemi karena iman dan akhlaq yang mulialah yang suci dan sejati. Cinta ini akan abadi, tak lekang diterpa angin atau sinar matahari, dan tidak pula luntur karena guyuran air hujan.

Yahya bin Mu’az berkata: “Cinta karena Allah tidak akan bertambah hanya karena orang yang engkau cintai berbuat baik kepadamu, dan tidak akan berkurang karena ia berlaku kasar kepadamu.” Yang demikian itu karena cinta anda tumbuh bersemi karena adanya iman, amal sholeh dan akhlaq mulia, sehingga bila iman orang yang anda cintai tidak bertambah, maka cinta andapun tidak akan bertambah. Dan sebaliknya, bila iman orang yang anda cintai berkurang, maka cinta andapun turut berkurang. Anda cinta kepadanya bukan karena materi, pangkat kedudukan atau wajah yang rupawan, akan tetapi karena ia beriman dan berakhlaq mulia. Inilah cinta suci yang abadi saudaraku.

Saudaraku! setelah anda membaca tulisan sederhana ini, perkenankan saya bertanya: Benarkah cinta anda suci? Benarkah cinta anda adalah cinta sejati? Buktikan saudaraku…

Seseorang mengeluh pada Ustadz, ‘Dimanakah keadilan Allah, telah lama aku meminta dan memohon padaNya namun tak pernah dikabulkan.. aku shalat, puasa, bersedekah, berbuat kebajikan.. tapi tak satupun keinginanku dikabulkan. ‘Bayangkan jika pengamen itu berpenampilan seram, bertato, bertindik, nyanyiannya tak merdu memekakkan telinga, apa yang kau lakukan?’ Orang itu menjawab, ‘segera kuberi uang agar dia cepat berlalu dari hadapanku’

‘Lalu bagamana jika pengamen itu Qori besuara merdu mendayu, menyanyi dengan sopan dan penampilannya rapi lagi wangi, apa yg kau lakukan?’ ‘Kudengarkan dan kunikmati hingga akhir ayat lalu kuminta ia mengaji agi sekali lagi dan tambah lagi..’, kata orang itu sambil tersenyum

‘Kalau begitu bisa saja Allah bersikap begitu pada kita hambaNya. Jika ada manusia yang berakhlak buruk dan dibenciNya berdoa dan memohon padaNya, mungkin akan dia firmankan pada malaikat ‘Cepat berikan apa yang dia minta. Aku muak dengan pintanya. Tapi bila yang menadahkan tangan adalah hamba yang sholeh yang rajin bersedekah, maka mungkin saja Allah berfirman pada malaikatNya : Tunggu. Tunda dulu apa yang dipintanya, aku menyukai doa-doanya, Aku menyukai isak-tangis nya. Aku tak ingin dia menjauh dari Ku setelah mendapat apa yg dipintanya. Aku ingin mendengar tangisnya karena Aku mencintainya..Nah siapa kira2 yang sudah dicintai Allah SWT..?

( TREND DOSA ) BUDAYA PACARAN, BUDAYA SYURGA DUNIA TAPI HAKIKATNYA NERAKA

Budaya pacaran ialah pemborosan melalui kencan, traktiran, tontonan, kini jalan zina itu menjadi kebanggaan. Bahkan ada yang minder tidak berpacaran. Malu gak maksiat, Naudzubillah. Ini terulang dimasa Jahiliyah dimana hukum Allah tidak menaungi peradaban, ingat pada zaman jahiliyah dulu para suami malu bila mendapatkan an

ak perempuan, l Malu dikuburkan hidup-hidup. Sekarangpun sama, pada pacaran seakan moral anak terkubur - masa depan rawan terkubur bersamaan dengan dampak buruknya di pergaulan bebas.

Pacaran, bertentangan dengan Islam Agama yang mulia dan aturan Allah yang tinggi pada kehidupan ini.

Pacaran tidaklah lepas dari bersentuhan, entah dengan cara berjabat tangan, berboncengan di atas kendaraan, atau berpegangan, berpelukan, berciuman dan lainnya. Memegang dan menyentuh wanita yang bukan mahram adalah perbuatan yang diharamkan dalam agama kita.

Rasulullah -Shollallahu alaihi wasallam- bersabda :

1) Andaikan kepala seseorang di tusuk dengan jarum besi, itu lebih baik (ringan) baginya dibandingkan menyentuh kulit seorang wanita yang tak halal baginya. [HR. Ar-Ruyaniy dalam Al-Musnad (227/2), dan Ath-Thobroniy dalam Al-Kabir (486, & 487)]

2) Janganlah seorang laki-laki berkholwat (berduaan) dengan seorang wanita kecuali bersama mahromnya [HR Bukhori: 3006,523, Muslim 1341, Lihat Mausu'ah Al Manahi Asy Syari'ah 2/102]

3) Tidaklah seorang lelaki bersepi-sepian (berduaan) dengan seorang perempuan melainkan setan yang ketiganya (HSR.Tirmidzi)

4) Allah SWT Berfirman : Dan janganlah kamu mendekati zina, sesungguhnya zina itu adalah suatu perbuatan yang keji dan suatu jalan yang jelek (Al Quran Surat Al Isra 32)

5) Kedua tangan berzina dan zinanya adalah meraba, kedua kaki berzina dan zinanya adalah melangkah, dan mulut berzina dan zinanya adalah bicara. (H.R. Muslim dan Abu Dawud)

Orang tua tidak peduli lagi dengan anak gadisnya ketika keluar rumahbersama laki-laki yg bukan mahramnya. Keluar dengan b erpakaian serba ketat, kemudian dibonceng,. Tidak tahu kemana anak gadisnya dibawa pergi. Lalu terjadilah apa yang terjadi. Si gadis terkadang pulang larut malam, namun orang tua hanya membiarkan kemungkaran terjadi di dalam rumah tangga, dan keluarganya. Inilah Dayyuts yang diharamkan baginya jannah (surga).

Nabi -Shallallahu alaihi wa sallam- bersabda : Ada tiga golongan yang sungguh Allah haramkan baginya surga: pecandu khomer, orang yang durhaka (kepada orang tuanya), dan dayyuts yang membiarkan kemungkaran dalam lingkungannya. [HR. Ahmad dalam Al-Musnad (2/69/no. 5372). Hadits ini di-shohih-kan Kitab Shohih Al-Jami (3047)]

NEW YORK CITY - Fans want Bloomberg's Sandy signer' Lydia Callis back. When New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg appeared at a news conference Wednesday without Lydia Callis at his side, fans of the sign language interpreter immediately expressed their disappointment via Twitter.



"Wait, where is Lydia Callis???? (aka our favorite sign language interpreter)" @abbygardner tweeted.



"Watching Bloomberg's latest briefing. So sad Lydia Callis is not the sign language interpreter #Sandy" tweeted @kyledoyle.

Chelesa Lately TV Show Under Fire For Mocks Sign Language

VIDEO [ASL/CC] - Host of the Chelesa Lately TV show under fire for mocks American Sign Language.



LOS ANGELES - Late-night host Chelsea Handler (of the Chelsea Lately Show, on E! Network) has found herself in the center of controversy, due to this skit (air date: Oct 30, 2012) the ASL-users community say mocks and makes fun of the language they use to communicate American Sign Language.



In the skit, a member of the cast mocks Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's ASL Interpreter Lydia Callis, who translated for the Mayor's Hurricane Sandy press conferences, as seen on YouTube video.



Many people unfamiliar with ASL and the plight of the Oralism and Hard of Hearing don't realize that facial expressions and body movements are a part of ASL, and hence it is a protected activity, with communication considered a 'major life activity' under the American With Disabilities Act (ADA).

And what some with hearing (like Chelsea) would consider as "over-exaggerated" facial expressions and body movements are used for a good reason, not to "editorialize" or to be "passionate", but to communicate linguistic elements that those with hearing convey by way of vocal inflection, pitch, rhythm, pace, etc, and take for granted.



America’s largest Deaf organisation, the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) has written an open letter to the producers of a comedy show accusing them of “mocking” American Sign Language. Even, Deaf advocacy organization, Deaf Nation, released a letter the group sent to Handler.

Entertainment Television corporate lawyers probably will feel compelled to file a DMCA take-down notice with YouTube (as is their right, as they own the copyright), but I WILL file a DMCA counter-notice, demanding they file suit in Federal Court for copyright infringement. If they need to have a Judge lecture them on the basics of the principle of "fair use" exceptions allowed under U.S. Federal Copyright law, then they can be my guest.



On the other hand, I'm willing to consider relinquishing my right to this "fair use" (public commentary) if the "Chelsea Lately Show" offers a public apology for whatever insult and harm they have caused, perhaps with a statement educating their viewers as to why ASL interpreters must use non-gestural components as a part of ASL, to be broadcast on the Chelsey Lately show in an opening monologue, with a message that is deemed acceptable by representatives of the Deaf community (eg Deaf Nation).

Making fun of American Sign Language (ASL) in national spotlight is definitely lame and politically-incorrect despite unexpected and pricesless promotion of our beloved and respectful language recently. An interpreter's main role is to convey information rather than become a celebrity for the ignorant. Deaf people are aware of such mainstream fasincation with interpreters and our "beautiful" language. So I bring up the question that is OK to laugh at or laugh with and basically shrug this off? I think this whole publicity stunt is a turkey. I forgot to mention in my vlog: What if this was a terrorist attack rather than a weather crisis in NYC? OK to laugh at or with Lydia's national exposure? I think not.

Lydia Callis, the interpreter for Mayor Bloomberg during Hurricane Sandy, became famous on internet overnight because of her facial expressions. A number of Deaf people have expressed their objection against those who mock the interpreter and American Sign Language, especially the comedian Chelsea Handler. How should we, as Deaf individuals, response to such mockery of our culture and language?

NEW YORK CITY -- These days, a major world event can’t happen without an accompanying meme.



During Hurricane Sandy, the new social media star is Lydia Callis, the American Sign Language interpreter who appears next to the Mayor at press conferences and whose facial expressions have garnered her an internet following and the ultimate status symbol on the internet a fan Tumblr.



Outlets like NPR are calling her “a star” on the level of El Bloombito, the Spanglish-snark Twitter account that added some levity to Hurricane Irene by making fun of Michael R. Bloomberg’s terrible attempts to speak Spanish.

While most of the comments about Lydia online have been positive, they’re positive in an ironic and subtly mocking sort of way. The title of the Tumblr is “Lydia Callis’ face for NYC mayor” not her whole body, just her face.



Laine Nooney, a PhD candidate at SUNY-Stony Brook, tweeted that Callis is “the only SL interpreter I've ever seen who signs with a New York accent.” TruTV’s “Dumb as a Blog” even catalogued 12 of Callis’ facial expressions, giving each a nickname like “The Double Yodas” and “The Hiarious Paperback.”

In some of them, Callis is articulating herself in a way that would be completely relatable to any signer. “The Double Yodas” makes fun of the sign itself two hands in “Y” shapes pulling downward, which can either mean “now” or “today” while purporting to be a joke about Callis’ facial expression in the screencap...

NEW YORK CITY -- 'SNL' You could tell from a mile away that Saturday Night Live was going to use Lydia Callis, Mayor Bloomberg's American Sign Language interpreter, in their opening skit. But was it ... funny?



Callis became an overnight celebrity this week for her animated facial expressions as she interpreted ASL for Michael R. Bloomberg during his many press conferences regarding Hurricane Sandy . But as journalist Lilit Marcus wrote over at the Atlantic, much of the coverage of Callis was patronizing to ASL speakers.

Marcus is the child of two hearing impaired parents and was dismayed, if not entirely surprised, that the hearing world seemed to think Callis was there to provide goofy entertainment.



Yes, Lydia Callis’ facial expressions and large, emphatic signs are a bit unusual among interpreters, but they’re not incorrect. Most interpreters have a difference between the way that they sign for large groups and the way that they sign for small ones.

Terletak di Pulau Utara Selandia Baru, gua ini dinamakan sesuai dengan sejenis cacing yang banyak dijumpai dalam gua tersebut. Cacing tersebut adalah Luminosa Arachnocampa yang hanya ditemukan di Selandia Baru. Memiliki ukuran rata-rata sebesar nyamuk, larva glowworm yang bergantungan di langit-langit gua ini akan memancarkan cahaya terang. Yang menarik adalah bahwa larva yang lapar dikatakan akan bersinar lebih terang. Ribuan larva yang bersinar memberikan panorama langit di malam hari. Cahaya biru yang dipancarkan larva tersebut sebenarnya adalah sebuah reaksi kimia yang berlangsung dalam sebuah kapsul khusus dalam ekornya. Formasi batu kapur di dalam gua dikatakan terbentuk ketika wilayah itu masih berada di bawah laut sekitar 30 juta tahun lalu.

4. Gua dari Kristal (Meksiko)

Gua ini adalah rumah dari kristal terbesar di dunia yang terletak di Chihuahua, Meksiko. Gua ini merupakan sebuah rongga yang berbentuk tapal kaki kuda di bebatuan kapur yang memiliki lebar 10 meter dan panjang 30 meter dan berisi kristal Selenite raksasa yang bahkan sampai 12 meter panjangnya, dengan diameter 4 m dan berat 55 ton. Gunung Naica dipenuhi dengan anhidrit gipsum bersuhu tinggi selama aktivitas vulkanik yang terjadi jutaan tahun lalu. Magma memanaskan air bawah tanah dan melarutkan semua mineral. Proses pendinginan selama bertahun-tahun kemudian membentuk kristal besar selanite gipsum tersebut.

5. Gua Ali Sadr (Iran)

Gua Ali Sadr ini terletak sekitar 100 kilometer di utara Hamadan, Iran barat dan merupakan salah satu gua yang paling indah di dunia. Gua berusia 70 juta tahun berisi beberapa danau besar yang dalam dan formasi stalaktit menggantung dari langit-langit gua dalam warna berbeda menambah pesona keindahannya. Mengambil bentuk kembang kol, jarum dan payung, dalam warna-warni cerah, merah, ungu, coklat, hijau dan biru, formasi tersebut memberikan pandangan eksotis di lantai gua. Dikatakan bahwa Ali Sadr adalah satu-satunya gua dengan air yang sangat jernih sehingga kita dapat melihat hingga kedalaman 5 meter dengan jelas bahkan dalam cahaya redup.

6. Gua Eisriesenwelt (Austria)

Eisriesenwelt adalah gua batu kapur es alam yang terletak di Werfen, Austria. Terletak di Pegunungan Tennengebirga dekat Salzburg, gua membentang sepanjang 42 km dan merupakan gua es terbesar di dunia.

7. Gua Lechuguilla (Meksiko)

Gua ini merupakan gua terpanjang kelima di dunia. Gua Lechuguilla ini terletak di Taman Nasional Carlsbad Caverns, New Meksiko. Gua ini paling terkenal dengan bentuk geologi yang tidak biasa seperti speleothem yang sangat langka. Formasi langka dengan jumlah besar deposit gipsum dan belerang berwarna kuning lemon, dan kondisinya yang masih murni. Namun akses ke gua terbatas hanya untuk para peneliti ilmiah yang telah disetujui, tim survei dan tim eksplorasi saja.

8. Gua Kristal (Amerika Serikat)

Taman Nasional Sequoia, di negara bagian California AS dikenal sebagai rumah dari 240 buah gua. Gua kristal adalah sebuah goa marmer yang memiliki panjang lebih dari 3,4 mil. Gua ini berada di wilayah Hutan Raksasa, antara pintu masuk Ash Mountain dari taman Hutan Raksasa. Gua secara konstan bersuhu 9 °C (48 °F), dan hanya dapat diakses dengan ditemani pemandu wisata.

9. Gua Naga Kuning (China)

Gua Naga Kuning terletak di belakang perbukitan Xixialing di zona wisata West Lake, Hangzhou City. Gua ini sebenarnya pemandangan alam setengah buatan manusia dan setengah alami. Hal yang sederhana namun sangat elegan adalah ornamen seperti sejenis bambu yang berwarna putih, ungu, hijau dengan titik-titik emas, dan berbentuk persegi dan sebagainya.

10. Gua Velebit (Kroasia)

Gunung Velebit adalah rumah dari sejumlah gua yaitu Lukina Jama, Jama Slovacka, Velebita dan Meduza. Gua-gua ini memiliki beberapa stalaktit bawah tanah terbesar di dunia. Di kaki Lukina Jama ada kolam dan sungai yang memiliki koloni lintah bawah tanah terbesar di dunia.
